Civil Litigation

A&U‘s practice is heavily centered on prosecuting and defending a wide range of civil litigation actions, including but not limited to personal injury actions, property disputes, breach of contract actions, professional malpractice, will contests and probate claims, and civil rights and discrimination actions.   The attorneys at A&U have substantial trial experience and have represented hundreds of clients in matters ranging from multi-million dollar lawsuits involving international corporations to simple small claims actions between local residents.

A&U have been at the forefront of defending mortgage foreclosure actions since the housing crisis reached its threshold in 2009.   The attorneys at A&U implement a wide variety of strategies in order to achieve their clients’ personal and financial needs, including working aggressively to ensure a family remains in their home for the foreseeable future during a time of financial hardship, maximizing a property’s rental income while in foreclosure, and working toward settlement to protect a homeowner’s financial future. The attorneys at A&U also have extensive appellate experience, which allows them to assist clients at every stage of the foreclosure process.

Divorce and Domestic Relations

A&U’s attorneys have extensive experience representing individuals and families during some of the most difficult and emotionally turbulent times in their personal lives.  We recognize that much of the fear and anxiety involved in the legal system is the result of dealing with the unknown, and this is particularly true in the area of Family Law. As such, we help our clients understand the law so that they can respond effectively to emotionally-charged situations. By carefully listening to concerns and developing a thorough plan to serve you and your family's best interests, our attorneys are able to maximize our litigation and trial experience while reducing the uncertainties and achieving client goals. We regularly handle all areas of Family Law including Divorce, Child Custody and Visitation, Child Support, and Post-Decree Modification of Child Support, Enforcement of Child Support Orders, Mediation, Guardianship, and drafting and negotiating pre and post nuptuial agreements.

Debt Collection

Ordinary people face lawsuits, collections agencies, and creditor harassment as a result of their debts. In a typical case, you may have lost your job. Perhaps you are using your credit card to pay for household expenses and even medical bills. If your credit card debt gets too high and you can't meet your minimum monthly payments, the creditor might file a lawsuit against you in small claims court. Or a collection agent might call you constantly throughout the day, trying to wear you down. Although the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act prohibits threats, phone calls at odd hours and constant phone calls designed to annoy you, too many creditors continue to engage in these practices. Creditors might even follow you to your home or business, or use deceit — such as claiming to be law enforcement — to try to collect the debt. The objective is to make you feel frightened and trapped — so that you will agree to do things on their terms. The attorneys of Anderson & Uddin have substantial experience representing individuals in collections litigation proceedings, asserting defenses an counterclaims that are often unknown to pro se litigants.  As a result, A&U are able to negotiate with lenders and creditors using their clients' defenses as leverage in order to achieve favorable outcomes for their clients.

Student Loan Debt

A&U has an impressive track record when it comes to defending and defeating lenders’ attempts to collect student loan debt.  A&U’s attorneys utilize federal and state law to force a collecting lender to prove its right to a debt. By implementing these methods, A&U’s attorneys have achieved outright dismissals for its clients.   A&U’s attorneys’ success is especially significant in light of the fact that most student debt is not dischargeable in Bankruptcy.

Real Estate Transactions

Real estate is a major long-term investment, and its purchase or sale needs strong protections against unnecessary risk or liability. A flawed transaction can leave a party open to costly litigation, fines and other costs. An experienced legal team works to minimize the risk to clients and reduce potential exposure so business moves forward without interference. The attorneys of A&U have extensive experience working with businesses and individual clients to ensure that they receive adequate legal protection during the purchase or sale of property, from initial negotiations through inspection and the closing process.

Estates and Probate

There are many reasons to get started with the estate planning process today. By setting up wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and  living wills, you can:

Leave assets to people you choose
Decide who will manage your property if you are incapacitated
Decide who will make medical decisions if you are incapacitated
Eliminate or minimize estate tax
Provide for your loved ones after your death
Avoid the delay, expense and public nature of probate

A solid estate plan also reduces the likelihood that heirs and other family members will engage in contentious estate litigation. Estate planning is a goal-oriented process allowing you to make important decisions that you should not leave up to the state. To that end, the attorneys at A&U take great care in collaborating with our clients in creating and implementing estate plans that fit individual needs, while providing the kind of flexibility required in complex and ever-changing circumstances.

Personal Injury

People injured in accidents caused by the negligence, carelessness or recklessness of another are often uncertain whether or not they should seek the advice of a personal injury attorney. They may think that filing a lawsuit is unnecessary in order to be fully compensated, or that retaining an attorney is not worth the expense. Unfortunately, the civil legal system is complex and obtaining just compensation for things like medical bills, pain and suffering, and other out of pocket expenses can prove exceedingly difficult.  Using their substantial experience, U&A's attorneys utilize the nuances of the law to leverage favorable outcomes for their clients, whether in the form of a settlement or jury verdict.

The attorneys of A&U have been fighting for the rights of injury victims for over a decade. We handle a variety of personal injury matters, including:
